Primary Instincts
Primary Instincts was first created in the isolation of the pandemic — a period when uncertainty stripped life down to its rawest elements. This abstract self-portrait is less a depiction of physical form and more a visceral expression of psychological survival.
This painting is an excavation of my subconscious mind. It’s a map of emotional terrain. In stripping down visual language to its core components, using primary colours and basic shapes, Primary Instincts confronts the threshold between collapse and clarity.
Primary Instincts is part of a ‘3-part Unmasked Portrait Series.’ I started this series during the 2020 pandemic. In 2025, I returned to them with a fresh perspective and a clearer vision.
